AHS Book Club

In the fall of 2008, 3 students, inspired by their interest in young adult novels (especially Twilight by Stephanie Meyer), decided that AHS needed to have a book club. After approaching (begging, pleading) Mrs. Wynkoop with their interest, an after school group was formed. Since that time book club has moved its meeting to lunchtime on the second Thursday of every month.  Any student or teacher interested in reading and discussing books is welcome to join us!

The club books are chosen by student vote, input from Mrs. Wynkoop and Mrs. Brutyn, or the titles that come from grant programs. Often the books are purchased through donations. Members usually read a book over a month or two and then discuss during our lunch meeting.

For the second year in a row, book club chose to read a novel that would be presented on stage by the American Place Theater at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts. Last year the book brought to life on stage was Kite Runner. This year, the book was The Secret Life of Bees. On Tuesday, March 22nd, book club, joined by Mrs. Dreim's English classes and the IB TOK students, were able to attend the one person dramatic presentation of the novel. The presentation included student participation in coversation before and after the performance.
